Bitcoin Mining Power Sets Record at 943 EH/s

Global hashrate has reached a new high of 943 EH/s, as confirmed by the seven-day simple moving average (SMA). This record was set on May 31, just 22 days after the previous high of 929 EH/s (plus 14 EH/s compared to the previous peak of computing power).

The network is only 1 exahashes away from reaching the threshold of 57 zettahash per second (Zh/s). That’s a huge amount of computing activity.

It is common in the community to compare the most powerful computing system on Earth to supercomputers, but this is not entirely accurate. Bitcoin hashing is based on integer operations, while supercomputers are measured in floating-point operations per second (FLOPS), which is a fundamentally different metric.

However, various estimates show that hashrate Bitcoin can perform significantly more operations per second than the world’s best machines, such as El Capitan, which has 1,742 exaflops. But again, any comparison is inherently flawed given the disparate tasks.

Importantly, Bitcoin’s computing power is distributed and works non-stop — 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Equipment failures or shutdowns can temporarily reduce the network’s computing power, but in 2025, we see only an increase in computing power.

The approach of the network power to the zettahash boundary indicates miners’ confidence in the prospects of coin and technological ambitions.
