Evgeny Masharov, who is a member of the commission of the Public Chamber of Russia for the examination of draft laws and other regulatory acts, stated that a special fund for confiscated cryptocurrencies could be created in the country.
According to the official, digital assets previously confiscated in criminal proceedings can be transferred to the fund. The profit received from the placement of cryptocurrencies can be used to finance various social projects, including environmental and educational ones.
According to Evgeny Masharov, the price of cryptocurrencies may increase in the long term. Such a fund will not only bring public benefit, but will also help eliminate the problem of using seized digital assets.
Earlier, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation came up with a similar initiative, presenting to the government a bill on recognizing cryptocurrency as property to resolve the issue of seizure and confiscation of assets. The department has been seeking to implement this provision in legislation for four years.
