Tigran Gambaryan, who escaped from Nigerian prison, will leave Binance

CEO of a crypto exchange Tigran Gambaryan announced that he is leaving his post. However, he will continue to work in the crypto industry.

As digital assets converge more closely with traditional finance and national security, there is a growing need for trusted, experienced operators who understand how to translate technology into law enforcement and compliance. That is where I intend to continue to make a difference, whether in government or in the private sector,” he said.

Tigran Gambaryan became widely known to the global crypto community after he and his colleague Binance Nadeem Anjarwalla was arrested in Nigeria and spent about eight months in jail there. They were charged with money laundering and tax evasion in connection with a case brought by the Nigerian government against Binance.

Anjarwalla reportedly fled Nigeria and crossed into Kenya later that month, while Gambaryan remained in custody. He was only able to leave the country in October 2024 after the US government and several human rights groups advocated for his release.
